CRUFTS, 8th March 2012
I last judged this breed at Crufts in 2006, and with absentees today, the entry was very small, so it is not fair to make any kind of judgment as to the state of a breed based on this entry. Given the very small band of dedicated breeders and exhibitors, it is wonder that the breed continues as it stands. My veteran dog entry was absent, so along with 2 others missing in open dog, a grand total of only 3 males presented themselves for inspection. Happily, 9 of the 10 of the bitches were present. Several bitches had beautiful head type but were carrying far too much weight, an aspect I might be slightly more forgiving in some other breeds, but never in a breed which must be able to survive in the desert….and I am not talking about desserts!
PGD(Entries: 2 Abs: 0)
1st Anacan Issachar (Mrs E M Minto). good size striking looking square dog with typical expression, vg eye, but would like a tad more fill under the eyes. He has an excellent length of neck, overall excellent conformation, in good hard condition, has very good topline and underline flow, vg legs and tight feet; tail a tad low set Reserve Best Dog, is still young and with maturity can only get better
2nd Kessem Yanis Orly To Khandikhaine (Mr R Crowfoot & Miss N Shukla). has many excellent qualities, but right now is carrying too much weight and is in soft condition. Head is quite pleasing for balance, stop and skull and muzzle shape, vg ears for set on, but would prefer darker eyes. Is not inclined, as many in this breed, to make the best of himself, but when he does move out, it is sound gait; needs more training as he tends to pace.
OD(Entries: 3 Abs: 2)
1st Babrees French Resistance (Mr I & Mrs J Terry). 6 yr old sand dog of excellent breed type, attractive outline, excellent square balance and conformation, excellent head and expression but would like slightly more almond shape to eyes, otherwise, has correct head proportions, slight stop, correct ear set, excellent neck, VG flow to body, and this showed on the move with an effortless and energy efficient gait. Excellent quality. Best Dog.
SJB (Entries: 3 Abs: 0)
All 16 months, and from the same litter, and of course, given their young age will take time to come into their best.
1st Anacan Happy Anni (Mrs E M Minto) appeals for her correct feminine head and excellent expression, lovely overall balance, excellent neck, forehand, tight feet, made the best of herself in this class of the three.
2nd Anacan Silhouette (Mrs E M Minto) littermate of class winner, needing more ring experience, but having said that, when she collected herself, she showed on the move her very good conformation and balance. Not the eye shape or fill under the eye as the class winner.
3rd Anacan Raven (Miss J Kelly) another black bitch who is much finer than her littermates, so will probably take more time to develop. Has the beautiful tight feet, but her lack of ring practice held her back for examination. Has a lovely feminine expression, fairly good topline, quite strong rear quarters.
PGB (Entries: 3 Abs: 0)
Both of these bitches had soft toplines.
1st Danehaven Ashkezar (Miss D Collins) almost 3 yrs old, fairly typical outline, good headv, good ear set, eyes are a bit round, and need more fill under the eyes, pasterns need strengthening, but she moved better than #2.
2nd Anacan Maid For Glory At Danehaven (Miss C Powley) a headache as I much prefer her head for breed type but carries too much weight so that affects her all over.
OB (Entries: 4 Abs: 0
1st Bat Yerushalaim Shel Zahav JWW EW WW Ch (Miss I Blayvas) lovely bitch for square balanced outline, this bitch knows how to make the most of herself both standing and on the move in the ring. Elegant throughout, vg head and expression, very sound on the move and used her tail correctly. I would like a bit more almond shape to eye, but is well filled under the eye with correct pigmentation, correct ear set, lovely neck and body line. Her excellent free gait and use of tail made her Best Bitch and Best of Breed
2nd Anacan Sheeza Gem (Mrs E M Minto) close up for quality,4 yr old bitch. Here is very nicely balanced bitch but not quite the forehand of class winner. She has attractive feminine expression, would like a bit more fill under the eyes and they are a bit full in shape. She is for me a more correct type overall compared to the rest of the class, and when she settled moved very well. Reserve Best Bitch
3rd Anacan Sheer Elegance (Ms C & Mrs E Powley & Minto) veteran bitch with excellent head for breed type, what I wanted to see in more of the bitches today with correct skull, muzzle shape, slight stop and vg eyes and ears. Coat is a bit soft, but she is very overweight so this affected everything else, a shame.

DARLINGTON CH SHOW, 16th September 2011
I was happy to have such a lovely entry of Canaans. Although there are still variations in type, I find the breed much more unified in type than the last time I saw them here in England, and improving in quality. Some of the dogs were really excellent and could compete anywhere. There is an improvement in topline and movement. Temperaments are also overall much improved, though a number of the dogs would benefit from more ring experience and better handling. I hope the breeders here continue in this direction.
VD/B (4 2) 1st Minto, Mrs E. M., Anacan Sheez The One, B. Good size and bone. Correct body proportions and angulation. Moves very well. Tail a bit low set and should be carried higher. Nice head but a bit too chiseled under the eye. BV
2nd Powley Miss C., Sheleg Harishon at Danehaven D. Strong dog, a bit too strong in head, skull and muzzle and too broad in body. Topline a bit soft when moving. Correct shape. Tail should be set and carried higher.
PD/B (2 1) 1st Kelly Miss J., Anacan Raven. Refined bitch of correct proportions, good angulation, correct body length, good neck. Nice dark eyes. Moves well. Would prefer a bit more size, bone and substance. Needs more ring experience, does not show herself to her best advantage.
JD/B (1 0) 1st Minto Mrs. E.M., Anacan Happy Anni. Excellent type of good size, substance and correct body proportions. Athletic. Nice head and expression, lovely eye. PGD (4 0) 1st Terry Mr. and Mrs. I., Babrees French Resistance. Excellent size and proportions, good bone. Nice dark eye and good expression. Moves very well. Good short back and compact body, but topline slightly soft. Needs to show himself better and carry his tail higher. BD & BOB
2nd Minto Mrs. E. M., Anacan Issachar. Excellent size and bone, just needs some time to mature. Well shaped head, excellent neck and body proportions, correct angulation. Elegant. Moves very well. Tail a bit low set and needs to carry it higher. Needs to be handled better. RBD

OD (1) 1 BOB, Hastings' Ir/Lux Ch Lorianna Sirius Star, lovely dog, correct proportions & type, erect low set ears & high tail carriage typifies the breed, nicely made, still has good legs & feet, excellent body, really dense harsh coat, really top quality Canaan, pleased to have him.
PB (2) 1 BP, RBB, O'Loughlin's Raaya Chava Me Shaar Hagai via Caoilta, good type, very hard & fit. Would prefer more almond shaped eye & for her to carry tail up but she will no doubt gain confidence as she gets more practice. Very nice bitch, good legs & feet; 2 O'Grady's Nizzana Fairey Firefly, carries tail better than 1 but not her bone & maturity of body, little forward in shoulders & needs more coat. Reasonable movement.
PGB (2) 1 Powley's Anacan Maid For Glory at Danehaven, good size & has lovely quarters. Could carry tail up more & use ears. Enough bone, good thick coat. Eyes a little rounded; 2 Collins' Danehaven Ashkezar, bit too nervous, not using ears or tail, coat dirty. Sound & moves well, good strong muzzle & depth of chest.
OB (3) 1 BB, Powley's Anacan Sheer Elegance, nice type, liked her head, eyes & low set erect ears, good sound construction, really hard & well developed quarters. Would like her to carry tail up but stood firm to be handled. Excellent coat; 2 Coombes & Hastings' Lorianna I Will Survive, lighter frame all through, pleasing head & personality, carries herself nicely. Would like more bone & little thicker coat but it is summer! Moves out well in profile but too narrow through front & rear.

Excellent front, good bone & shoulders, powerful hindquarters used well, very good on the move. CRUFTS, 13th March 2011
Thank you for your patience in waiting for the ring to become available. Type remains quite varied but most were pretty steady when it came to being handled. Couple were between coats but texture still satisfactory. It is a job to know if this was a truly representative entry but several were middle aged & beyond leaving me to wonder where the future lies.
JD (1) 1 Minto's Anacan Issachar, upstanding b/w of very good type with excellent balance, masculine yet clean head of correct proportions, ears set wide & used to advantage, moderate stop with dark eyes of good shape, decent front assembly down to tight feet, arch to neck, depth to brisket, ribcage developing, firm topline & loin, tailset & carried high, impressive reachy mover, still has some way to go with his maturing & this was more apparent in the challenge for best male, his day will come, steady attitude.
PGD (4,1a) 1 Anacan Issachar; 2 Terry's Babrees French Resistance, sand dog who has a very compact outline & clean head, broad skull almost flat, ears set low, scored here in eye giving expression more appeal, shoulders well laid & forelimbs straight down to tight feet, ribs well sprung & topline firm, definite tuck-up, good tailset & carriage, reasonable rear definition. Can slightly over-reach in profile if not checked; 3 Crowfoot & Shukla's Kessem Yanis Orly to Khandikhaine, very similar in many respects with a decent head & good pigmentation. Just enough spring to ribs. Level topline, well muscled hindquarters, willing mover.
OD (3) 1 Hastings' Int/Am/Lux/Ir/Slo Ch Lorianna Sirius Star, felt the first two in this class were very close up & took some separating, mature & very masculine in a square frame, proportioned head with ears set low, kind eye, muzzle filled under the eye to complete neat wedge, broad chest with ribs very well sprung & carrying enough bodyweight, gentle bend to stifle & hocks set low, very steady ground covering action. BOB; 2 O'Loughlins Babrees Desert Orchid via Caolita, surprised to find they are not closely related for both carry many of the same attributes, when it came to the crunch I just felt 1 scored marginally in expression & layback to shoulder. RBD; 3 Hughes' Anacan Future Legend, balanced r/w of a more streamlined type, so well balanced, clean wedgy head, decent front & feet, arch to neck, level topline with tailset high, very reachy mover in hard muscular condition.
JB (1) 1 Leader's Anacan Yesmina, upstanding b/w, well grown & feminine with just enough substance, balanced head, broad skull with moderate stop & super eyes of good shape, arch to neck, elbows held firm with straight forelimbs, ribcage deep & carried well back, good topline & tailset, definition to hindquarters, sound mover who just needs a bit more practice in ring procedure.
PGB (3) 1 Collins' Danehaven Ashkezar, w/sand, square & moderate throughout, liked her outline & head with its broad skull, moderate stop & darker eyes, decent front, just enough neck, well ribbed up, good topline & tail carriage, comes into her own in profile action. RBB; 2 Powley's Anacan Maid For Glory at Danehaven, sand with more substance but not quite the appeal of 1 in expression, balanced head, well ribbed & level topline, firm loin & definite waistline, definition to rear, steady mover; 3 Kaye, Byrne & Barclay's Chefa de Solemel, r/w, more slightly built & needing to settle a bit more to the job in hand, well placed lovely dark eye of good shape, firm topline with defined tuck-up & definition to quarters, reachy mover.
OB (5) 1 Minto's Anacan Glory Bea, w/sand of handy size & substance yet retaining femininity, scored in eye, balance & outline, broad skull, moderate stop, arch to neck, straight forelimbs, tight feet, well ribbed up & bodied with defined tuck-up, broad chest, good topline & tail carriage. Not the most animated mover but true enough from each direction. BB; 2 Powley & Minto's Anacan Sheer Elegance, free moving sand with strength to head, straight forelimbs, broad front with ribs well sprung, level topline & good tail carriage, easy mover; 3 Kaye, Byrne & Barclay's Chaniah de Solemel avec Nizzana, ultra feminine r/w with excellent balance, appeals for eyes, well ribbed, firm topline, high tailset & well muscled rear, reachy mover.

MANCHESTER CH SHOW, 21st January 2011
A numerically small breed, but one of the soundest in movement, unspoilt by the variances of overbreeding that affects so many other breeds.
JD (1) 1 Minto's Anacan Issachar, b/w of good size with excellent body proportions, head is clean with good length of muzzle, dark eyes & well placed ears, muscular neck leading into good lay of shoulders, straight front, tight feet, firm body with good tuck-up & moved out soundly with an easy gait & well carried tail. BOB.
PGD (1) 1 Shukla & Crowfoot's Kessem Yanis Orly to Khandikhaine, a bit lighter in body, but well balanced overall. Pleasing head, good front & angulation when settled, moved OK.
OD (1) 1 Hughes' Anacan Future Legend, r/w dog of a lovely type, wedge head, dark eyes, strong neck, straight front & tight feet which would have benefitted from a manicure, moved out well. RBD.
JB (2,1a) 1 O'Grady's Nizzana Fairey Firefly, 6 months, this r/w youngster was unsettled at first, but her handler worked hard & she presented a pleasing picture. Feminine head, sweet expression, excellent body & moved out well when she got into her stride. RBB & BP.
PGB & OB (1) 1 Gold's Anacan Shoshannah for Amicitia, loved this smart 5½ years, so feminine with a melting expression, super head, dark eyes, well-muscled neck, straight front & firm body, excellent angulation & condition, came into her own on the move with an unexaggerated fluid movement in the challenge. Just beaten by the male who gave that little bit more. BB.

JD (1) 1 Minto's Anacan Issachar, just what I look for in size, style & build. Upstanding 12 months b/w, masculine outlook, good head, strong jaw, correct bite, correct pigment, good front & feet, firm rearquarters sufficiently angulated, hard body condition, excellent coat texture, movement light but strong with an easy side gait, tail carried well. Would like a better brush. BOB.
PGD (2,1a) 1 Crowfoot & Shukla's Kessem Yanis Orly to Khandikhaine, sand of pleasing temperament & in good coat with lovely brush. Unfortunately he began badly by pacing around the ring which was not corrected by his handler. He must be encouraged to a better stance position & to use his ears.
OD (2,1) 1 Hughes' Anacan Future Legend, masculine, squarish w/r, good head & expression, dark eye, good bite, straight front. Nails could be shorter. Strong through his body, in harsh coat, confident stacked & moving where he maintained a level topline. RBD.
PGB (5,4) 1 Minto's Chancos Charmani at Anacan, s/w, smaller than my personal preference but well within the Standard. Feminine head, dark almond shaped eye & good bite. Her pigment was off a little & she was reluctant to use her ears. As all this exhibitor's entry today she was in exemplary muscle condition & harsh coat. RBB.
OB (3,2) 1 Minto's Anacan Glory Bea, handsome bitch whose outline was more to my liking having that extra length of leg which also came into play on the move where she ate up the ring. Straight front, good rib, firm quarters. Would like a little more turn of stifle. BB.

OD (3) 1 Hastings' AKC/Ir Ch/Lux Ch Lorianna Sirius Star, 7 years sandy dog with excellent masculine head proportions & good ears when used. Super front, good neck into excellent spring of rib & well boned, stood square & moved easily, holding his topline; 2 Minto's AM Ch Ha''Aretz Hayyim for Anacan, b/w dog with nice head & super ears, straight front, well bodied with nice arch of neck & good topline, moved well. Just a shade longer cast than 1.
PGB (3,2a) 1 Gold's Anacan Shoshannah for Amicitia, impressive 5 years sandy bitch with true front & lovely feminine head, ample substance & very well balanced, standing square. Very wary when being handled, which can be a characteristic of this breed, but confident on the move. BB.
OB (4,2) 1 Anacan Shoshannah for Amicitia; 2 Minto's Anacan Sheeza Gem, pleasing head, good ears & eye, nice front, short coupled, good coat texture, moved well. Lost out to 1 on reach of neck. RBB.

MANCHESTER CH SHOW, 22nd January 2010
This is a breed I live with, exhibit & breed the occasional litter of. There was a nice entry of this numerically small breed. There were three mixed sex classes with an entry of 11, (2 absent) dictating that I was only allowed to award a BOB, RBOB & BP (though no puppies were present). Generally the temperament shown was relatively typical of what we are seeing in the breed as it stands today in the UK with some showing little steadiness to owners. It was clearly evident that some exhibits were simply not settled in the show ring environment. Apart from the divergence in type & outline, attention needs to be paid to the lack of square body. Feet should be strong, round & catlike with hard pads – there was little evidence of this in some exhibits today; also a distinct lack of black eye rim pigment, harsh coat texture & lack of broad muscular thigh. Tail carriage was disappointing & a few did not have the required high set tail. Breeders need to address these issues & do their utmost to improve upon these attributes as well as maintaining good movement. This is a breed that needs to display ability for survival in the harsh extreme climate from where they originate, their function is as a protector of the flocks in the desert. I found what I was looking for in my BOB & RBOB, both excellent dogs, the result could easily have been reversed on another day.
PG (2) 1 Byrne's Chefa De Solemel, an alert & very attractive red with white markings & minimal ticking, a very feminine bitch, good outline, belly well tucked-up, good body proportions with depth of chest & spring of rib relative to age, wedge head of correct medium proportion, low set erect ears, broad at base, darkest of eye, black nose & lip pigment, front legs parallel, pasterns slightly slopping, straight harsh outer coat, energetic trot on the move around the ring, presented in good condition; 2 Powley's Anacan Made For Glory at Danehaven, another very feminine bitch of sand colour, lovely type, well proportioned head, well placed broad base ear & pleasing almond shaped eye, scissor bite, tight lips, balanced angulation. Sadly carrying too much weight for her size & substance, this affected her outline, topline & underline. Good action around the ring.
O (7) 1 O'Loughlin's Babrees Desert Orchid via Caoilta, strong masculine dog with correct square outline, proper medium size, substance & proportions, neck well set on, defined withers, maintained a level topline statically & kinetically, well sprung rib, ample depth & breadth of chest, correct harsh straight very dense outer coat with profuse undercoat of sand colour, best jacket of the day, good blunt wedge shaped head with correct flat top skull, shallow stop with appropriate definition, pleasing dark eye with dark rims, good dark lip & nose pigment, correctly placed ear with rounded tip & protective hair inside broad base of ear, tail set on high. Would have preferred better carriage. Alert to his environment, gaited energetically around the ring, although a little distracted at times. Exceptionally well presented in good condition & handled to advantage. BOB; 2 McLeod's Anacan Call Me Ishmael at Dunline, another excellent quality very mature male, well balanced sand coloured dog of correct square outline, given his condition & appearance it is hard to imagine he is nearly 10 years old, overall excellent in type, blunt wedge shaped head, proportionate & in balance with body, attractive almond shaped medium brown eye, obliquely set, good spring of rib with moderate breadth & depth of chest, well laid shoulder complemented by proportionate rearquarters, broad depth of thigh, legs straight when viewed respectively, sound action, going, coming & in profile, though could have been a little more energetic. Would have preferred better tail carriage to complete this lovely picture. Calm handler who presented exhibit well. RBOB; 3 Minto's Am Ch Ha'aretz Hayyim for Anacan.

MANCHESTER CH SHOW, 17th January 2009
My preference is for dogs to be moved on a loose lead – they are a natural breed.
JD (0). PGD (1) A. OD (3,1) Only 2 males here & 2 good ones, both clearly enjoying their time in the ring which does not conflict with breed temperament requirements. 1 Hastings' Am/Lux Ch Lorianna Sirius Star, very good mature sand, in good coat who fills the eye, good head, more positive in front than 2, firm shapely body, good sweep of stifle, broad thigh, very good type, size & shape, has most of the essentials plus the confidence & carriage required by the standard, presented to advantage. Our top dog of 2008 & on this showing likely to repeat the achievement. I was pleased to start his '09 with BOB; 2 Rogerson & Hastings' Lorianna Light My Fire, quality example of the breed, good size & shape, stacks up well, level topline & good tuck-up, attractive masculine head though a little more stop than the ideal. Good mouth & strength to muzzle, lovely pigment, presented in good coat & body, moves out with enthusiasm, pleasing carriage of his brushed tail & good use of ears & neck. RBD.
. JB (2) Two imports who are welcome additions to our numbers. 1 Kaye, Byrne & Barclay's Chaniah De Solemel avec Nizzana, decidedly feminine but with good bone. Pleasing expression though for me needs a touch more strength of foreface & width of skull. Balanced, straight front, enough rib & good tuck-up, moves with a lightness of gait & pleasing demeanour. Took the class on the go round; 2 Minto's Chancos Chamani at Anacan, making a good debut here & pushing 1 all the way. Appeals at first glance with her very dark points against a pale self-coloured head, good eye & mouth, clean shoulder, straight front, well proportioned but with withers & topline still to settle. Lively mover on good feet. Just needs to learn the ropes.
PGB (3) 1 Minto's Anacan Sheeza Gem, the most promising bitch I have seen in some time. She has a way to go yet as I'd like to see her drop in stifle & brisket & her immaturity is evident in her forehand. Good head, correct ear & eye, excellent mouth, enough jaw, clean throat, straight front, good feet, firm in body, sufficient tuck-up, firm rearquarters, shown in really good hard condition, excellent muscle, hard coat & correct pigmentation & has that most important virtue – type. Given a little time & correctly presented she will make her mark. BB; 2 Powley's Anacan Maid For Glory at Danehaven, good to go over, wedge head, arched neck, ribs good for spring & depth. Not in her best coat & could not match the outstanding condition of 1; 3 Gold's Anacan Shoshannah for Amicitia. OB (1) 1 Powley's Anacan Sheer Elegance, larger bitch of some type & substance, wedge head, good coat & correct tailset & brush. Did not stack up too well but improved on the move where she is a happy shower on good feet. My own preference is for more femininity & leanness. RBB.

This really is a delightful breed to judge with a definite type coming through due to clever breeders.
JD/B 1 Minto's Anacan Sheeza Gem, just days out of puppy this youngster was very smart, appealing expression, well set ears & good eye shape & colour, pleasing body, level topline, moved out well. As with many here, not in full coat but well deserved RBB.
OD 1 McLeod's Anacan Call Me Ishmael at Dunline, mature 8 year old, well balanced throughout, excellent head proportions, good arch to neck, straight front, well muscled front & rear, in good coat, held topline on the move & went round the ring with a positive gait. BOB, BVIS & VG3; 2 Hughes' Anacan Future Legend, good type, well proportioned head, firm body & moved out well.
OB 1 Powley's Anacan Maid for Glory at Danehaven, very attractive bitch who unfortunately had left her jacket at home. Feminine expression, well placed ears, good eyes, excellent front & overall balance, well muscled quarters, moved with an easy gait. Pushed hard for BOB. BB; 2 Powley's Anacan Sheer Elegance, excellent outline & conformation, good head. Would prefer a darker eye to complete the picture. Moved steadily.

BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL DOG SHOW, MAY 2003
We were late in the day by the time this breed started. The warm sun was to everyones liking, but I am afraid the wind kept catching my skirt, for which I apologize. For some reason, when I looked at the layout of the show map, I thought our ring was inside a building, otherwise I would not have worn the skirt I did on the day!
I was looking for a dog that would survive in the desert, and was horrified at the number of dogs (almost all in the entry) which had pasterns and feet that needed strengthening. I do hope with this spell of good weather this means you will get out and walk your dogs. Some coats were on the blow, but this is typical for the time of the year, so I took that into consideration. Other coats were for me, almost too heavy, standing out and thick, seeming to belong to another artic spitz breed, or is this just the way it was prepared for exhibition? Far too many of the dogs were moved at too high a speed for gaiting around the ring. In my opinion, the energy the dog would use in the desert would be involve a more conservative nature and steady gait, not something trying to outdo a Standard Poodle in the show ring! Yes, they need to show energy, but not at a break neck speed. This, in turn affected so many of the dogs gait, with very narrow back action and out at elbows as they came back to me. With a downhil ring, several placements were affected from this problem. Adolescent dogs were just that, will look forward to seeing them in a years or so time when they grow up mentally.
JD/B: 1, OLoughlin's Babrees Desert Orchid via Caoilta 11month old sand dog that really took my eye for excellent balance, breed type, conformation, outstanding head and expression. Best Puppy and RBD. Just needs time to mature, I will watch his progress with interest.; 2, Mintos Anacan Sheez the One. Very feminine expression, overall vg balance. Excellent eye, skull and ear. VG front. Needs more time and confidence.; 3, Terrys Babrees Desert Song.
OD: 1, Mintos Anacan Ziggy, almost 7 yrs dog with excellent breed type in body shape, bone, angulation, topline and movement. When gaited slower, was much better. Has the desired eye for placement, shape and pigmentation. BD and in the challenge, preferred his side gait for BOB.; 2, Hastingss Nizzana Hadad for Lorianna, extremely mature 22 month old black dog with quite a lot of coat, body and head. Moves extremely well in all directions, probably the best mover in the entry.. Tends to stand a shade narrow in front. Would like a darker eye to enhance expression.; 3, Mintos Anacan Masterpiece.
OB: 1, Terrys Babrees Bethea Batyam, 5 yr. Old black and white bitch with excellent overall body proportions and angulation. VG conformation, bone, legs and feet. Fairly compact. Would like darker eyes and a slightly longer muzzle for optimal expression. Moves very well. BB/BOS.; 2, Mintos Anacan Glory Bound;, 2 yr. Feminine bitch with excellent breed type, lovely head, nice overall outline, but needs maturity to balance her proportions out. One of the few with the correct eye shape but would like a darker colour. When slowed down moved quite well. 3, Hastings Lorianna Lucky Star.

I felt honoured to draw such a quality entry of dogs for my first judging appointment in the breed. I found them all to be well presented and all had sound temperaments. None backed away from me. It was a pity that we weren't judged outside as movement was a little difficult to assess in the small indoor ring.
JD/B (Enries: 1) Abs:0
1st & BP: Minto's ANACAN SHEEZ THE ONE - 11-month sand with typical head and eye. Good front construction, correct feet. Well made rear with well let down hocks, moved out well. One to look out for!
PGD/B (Entries: 4) Abs: 2
1st: Hasting's NIZZANA HADAD FOR LORIANNA - Difficult decision as these two were so different. Well muscled black male. Impressive standing and on the move. Good head, eye and bite. Short coupled, light on his feet and had enormous presence.
2nd: Mills' ANACAN NICK NACK - A lot to like about the B/W/G male. Has a look of quality and was easy to fault. Could well have better days.
OD/B (Entries: 7) Abs: 2
1st & BOB: Minto's ANACAN ZIGGY - Black & white male with gold markings. Excelled in movement here today. Typical Canaan all through, from his correct wedge shaped head and well set ears to his well carried brush.
2nd: Hastings' ANACAN FOREVER AMBER WITH LORIANNA - Res BOB. Exquisite sand bitch with a superb outline. Everything about her oozes quality, each part of her flowing neatly into the next. Thought at first she was my winner, but not liking the hall as musch as my 1st. Shown in super condition. I loved her.
3rd: Minto & Gold's ANACAN MASTERPIECE - Another sand. All male and very typical. Lots to like and little to fault.

By Avi Marshak, FCI International All Breeds Dog Judge
I had the pleasure to judge the native breed of my country, Israel. To tell the truth I was surprised to find out that 24 dogs were entered in this show. In my country we get smaller entries.
It was a challenge to judge again this breed outside Israel. So far I have judged this breed in the following countries: Finland, Italy England and the USA.
More than 10 years ago I saw the breed in the UK, unofficially, and I can say that the quality was improved. To start with I may say that the type was correct. In general most of the dogs were square and several bitches were a little longer in bodies and this is according to the standard. The substance was medium, not too heavy and not too elegant but somewhere in between, and I was pleased to see it. Last time the dogs and the bitches were long bodied heavy and coarse without any elegance. Heads were correct with blunt shape appearing broader due to low set ears. Backs could be straighter. In several cases I saw swayed backs.
The temperament of the Canaan is very complicated especially for the non-specialist judges. I had to withhold on three dogs that were a little shy. However, in general the temperament was solid.
My BOB was a bitch from the Post Graduate Bitch:
BABREES THE MILKY WAY
(Babrees Benjamin D`Israeli x Layla Me Shaar Hagai)
Breeder: Mr I & Mrs. J Terry.
Owner: Mr D & Mrs. H Braddock.
A square bitch, well balanced and correct proportions with correct bones and substance, correct head appearing broader to low set ears, straight top line, medium angulations, correct coat and colour could have more drive in motion.
The Res.Best Bitch came from the Open Bitch:
ANACAN FOREVER AMBER WITH LORIANNA
(The Lion of Judah at Anacan x Momaavega The chosen One of Anacan)
Breeder: Mrs E M Minto.
Owner: Miss Lorna Hastings
A very elegant bitch. I would like to see more body on her. A little long in body. Correct top line, medium angulations, correct coat and colour and she moved like a dream.
The Best Dog came from the Open Class:
ANACAN ZIGGY (Gvir Me Shaar Hagai at Anacan x Minto`s Libyan Jewel)
Breeder: Mrs E M Minto
Owner: Mr Richard & Mrs Ellen M Minto
A very impressive male, very masculine, well-balanced, correct substance, correct proportions, strong masculine head, medium angulations, correct topline. Could have better colour. Very fluent movement with strong topline.
The Res. Best Dog was:
(The Lion of Judah at Anacan x Kibutzer Kween in Kofyn)
Breeder: Mrs. E M Minto
Owner: Mrs. E Minto & Mrs Barbara Gold.
A very elegant male with corrects proportion, good mover.
The Best Veteran was:
THE LION OF JUDAH AT ANACAN
(Sivan Me Shaar Hagai x Minto`s Libyan Jewel)
Breeder: Mr Richard Minto
Owner: Mrs Ellen Minto
Almost 9 years old male with good condition and correct proportion.
If we look at the names of the winners we can see that the kennel ANACAN dominated the ring with excellent quality.
I would like to thank the exhibitors who supported the show and came to show under me and showed a great sportsmanship.
